You will need to do some preparation before you build a ramp for a shed. We will go through each step from the first to the last on how to build a ramp for a shed.
Steps to Build a Ramp for a Shed
1. You need to level the ground your shed ramp will lay on. If the ground is soft where the end of the ramp will rest then you will want to dig down and make a bed of gravel or pour concrete for the ramp to rest on. The reason for this is that over time your shed ramp will settle and start to pull away from your shed.
2. It’s time to start the lay out, measure down from the finished floor of your shed the thickness of the plywood you will use. Next measure from the ground to your; mark this is as your rise. Then measure from the shed to where you want your shed ramp to end; this is the run. Now take your rise multiply it by 12 then divide it by the run.
Example: the rise is 2 feet and the run is 8 feet then rise x 12 =24/by 8=3 you have a 3in12 pitch. Take your framing square and set it at three and 12.
3. I suggest using joist hangers on your shed for greater strength. You also want to block between your joist to tie them together.
Now you know how to build a ramp for a shed you can start building other out door projects.
