What is the best length of a Gooseneck Trailer to use for hot shot trucking?
I am starting up a hot shot trucking business with a Dodge 3500 and have heard that a 35 ft trailer with a 5 ft dove tail and ramps to make a 40 ft flatbed is the best option. I have trucked before but am not real familiar with hot shot trucking and I want to get all the payload I can.
Are you talking about a pull trailer, and not a 5th wheel set up?. You mentioned putting extensions on the rear of the trailer. Some states do no allow this modification. If you are going to use a pull trailer the 35 / 40 foot setup sounds reasonable. But you should check with a comercial officer in each state you intend to operate in or through. If you are purchasing a cab and chassis I would put a low mount 5th wheel on it and purchase a 53 foot drop deck trailer with a spread axle.
