The accelerator pedal on my 2007 vehicle broke off! Has this happened to you?
I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander with less than 3200 miles. I pressed the gas pedal to change lanes then...Crack! The pedal and arm of the accelerator broke off. (Yes, I was going about 45 mph on busy Lake Shore Drive when this happened). I managed to get to a safe place and I inspected the damage. The darn pedal is made out of PLASTIC! WTF! It just snapped off!
I felt around under the dashboard, and found the broken part that was still connected to the engine...When I pressed that, the engine revved up, and I knew I could make it home. I called the Customer Service line and reported this malfunction, I told them the vehicle is unsafe to drive so they sent a flatbed and towed it to the Dealership. I called the Dealer, and of course they can only replace the pedal with the same plastic part. I'm sure I can just go online and find a replacement metal pedal. (Are these safe?) Please let me know if you own the same vehicle and had this same problem. If not than be aware and be safe!
No that has not happen to me , But the dealer will replace it with a new and updated one they know they have a problem and that is a delta part so start keeping records when I say delta that means it is suppose to be governed part its supposed to be made to a special spec and not break , hope this helps
