accidently filled diesel van with unleaded petrol?

i accidently filled my diesel van with unleaded petrol, i then added the same amount of diesel to my tank, to dilute it.

Will this work and what damage has it done to my engine.

You will have to bleed the engine. Diesels work differently to petrol systems. As when you run out of diesel you can't just fill it up again, you have to bleed the whole system. Best to take it to a garage if your not too familiar with the workings, but definitely don't drive. It might be pricey though...
